Summer nights and friends meeting at our Wednesday evening Cruise-in at Arby’s has come a long way. Life is great and friendship is even better! I cannot imagine any other way to spend an evening. Arby’s parking lot seems to get fuller every week with multiple Hot Rods, Classic Cars, and Corvettes showing off their wares. The on-lookers are in awe, stopping in to catch a glimpse of the beautiful work put into each car and its mechanical wonders. Our club has a great roadside area showing with an average of 12 cars per week. This is a commendable showing and great participation among the membership. Of course I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that we would like to see more members joining in with us and enjoying the food discounts and camaraderie.
One significant event in April and “Historical Moment” for Southern Maryland Corvette Club, is our Brick at the Corvette Museum. We have come a long way since 2001 and it is because of our dedicated members who keep this club alive. Thank you all for your donations and I want to personally thank Vince & Carol Morelli, and Chris & Becky LaQuay for heading up this effort. Our club will be forever indebted to you.
We started off the car show season very well with the Charlotte Hall “Coming Out” show followed by the St Mary’s Rod and Classic’s Spring Fling. Both events unfortunately had cold and somewhat rainy days. None the less we had a great time meeting up with everyone. Our friends from Hanover PA, (“Cruzin’ Vettes” Club) stopped by for the Spring Fling event. Cindy and I hosted about 5 Cruzin Vettes cars at our place on Saturday. We departed our house for an opportunity to have dinner with Harold and Bonnie Leister and some of their club members at Outback. They brought 12 Members total (12 cars) to show their support with our club. Thanks Harold and Bonnie for being great friends and a terrific club! Our Club, Cindy, and I enjoy your continued friendship and always look forward to seeing you and your club members.
Our Car Show Chairman (Bill Gilligan) has been busy making arrangements with the Tech Center in preparation for our Show on 27 September. We were able to get “Car Tunes” as our DJ for the event. He is the DJ that plays at Arby’s once a month and he is absolutely terrific. He has agreed and committed to our show. I will be contacting our Sponsors (Winegardner and Courtney) to help with the funds for the DJ and hopefully advertisement. The Flyer is complete and has been passed at several events so far. Vince has been advertising our event with on-line clubs and anywhere we can post our flyer. Bear has agreed to do our dash plaque and T-Shirt logo and as always, should be great!
Many people visit the web and I can tell you that the number of hits on our site continually grows. We are averaging 160 hits each month! This is outstanding advertisement for our club! Our For Sale, Merchandise, Members Page, and Trivia pages have come along very well. Also, a special thanks to Sam Lupi for taking the time to keep everyone smiling with your camera in hand!
Finally, I want to thank the membership for your continued support of our Club. Our membership continues to grow (now at 55) through your participation and distributing our Tri-fold. I continue to encourage every member to participate in our events and become a part of your club.
Don't forget to check in on the "Calendar" regularly so you don't miss out on some fun events!
